Why did you choose to work in the MICE tourism sector? What inspired you, and how long have you been in it?
I have been in the MICE tourism sector since 1986, when the tourism industry started to give special attention to this sector. At that time, at least in Brazil, MICE projects were similar to leisure ones. My first incentive was McDonnell Douglas from the UK. A group with 80 participants, and it was a challenger to a young professional. I was able to work on a different program than usually offered to leisure projects, and it was very exciting.
What motivates you in your work?
I think the MICE industry is fascinating! Each project is a challenger, trying to create the perfect program for each client. The MICE sector is dynamic and creative. It makes you surpass yourself with each project.
What is the best feedback a client has ever given you?
There has been so much good feedback during all these years. In 1990, I organized a Government Conference with representatives from the whole world, and the client wrote:
“I wanted to take this opportunity to let you know that the 1990 meeting of this conference series was a great success, not only in terms of participants, quality of discussion, and site, but also in terms of planning and final execution of logistics. While I had a lot of help, in particular the help of the Cabo Frio Foundation, the assistance of Mauricio Correa was invaluable. I am most grateful that you put this hardworking and innovative young man in charge of the event. He not only stayed on top of the endless changes and made my task of running this event easier, but it was also a pleasure to work with him. Mauricio is not only highly efficient and capable, his integrity is flawless.”
What do you love most about your destination?
Brazil is a fantastic destination. Several countries are inside a single one, but what I like the most is its people. The freedom to be ourselves! Smiley and happy people, despite the difficulties we may face. Our carefree way of being and enjoying life, but also hardworking and innovative people.
What’s the best hidden gem in your destination to share with a friend?
Brazil is a treasure arc. Each destination has its hidden gems. In Rio de Janeiro, I like to hang around the Lapa Bohemian district located downtown Rio de Janeiro, or “Baixo Leblon” with several bars for a nice caipirinha.
What does traveling mean to you?
Traveling broadens your mind. Getting to know different cultures, people, and places. I have lived in several countries, and getting to know different people is fascinating. It makes you understand that even with differences, we are a single world. It does not matter where you are from, we all want love, peace, wealth, and friends.
What do you miss most when you’re away from your destination?
My family and friends! But I always make friends wherever I go! When I travel, I am ready for new experiences. I take with me all the good vibes I have from Brazil, but I let myself open to new things, so I do not miss much of what I have in Brazil, because I know I will always return home.
